Former Morocco coach Phillippe Troussier has confirmed to Al Heddaf that he is interested in taking over for Rabah Saadane as head coach of the Algerian national team in the future but has also insisted that he does not want to be a distraction to the Fennecs who have just begun their preparations for their South African adventure. The tactician was asked about the possibility of him coming to Algeria after the World Cup and had this to say:

“I respect [Rabah] Saadane very much and feel the same way about the Algerian Football Federation President, [Mohamed] Raouraoua. However, I think this isn’t the opportune moment to talk about this since it’s before the World Cup,” he said.

“It’s true that I am free of obligations and I want to come back to the pitch after having finished my project of helping football in Japan. Considering the professional championship which has been launched in Algeria, I am interested in working on some objective with the FAF. Raouraoua knows well that I am ready at any moment.”

As for the north African country’s chances in South Africa this summer, Troussier has confidently predicted that Algeria could be one of the surprises of the tournament and that their main concern should be winning their first group game against Slovenia.

“I am convinced that Algeria is going to be the surprise of group C but they have to watch out for Slovenia who have almost the same strengths and also want to create a surprise against England and the USA,” he explained.

“However, I’m almost certain that Algeria is going to create lots of problems for their opponents thanks to their diversity of play and their solid defense. I think they have what it takes to make it out of the first round.”
