South Korea captain Park Ji-sung wants nothing less than a win from what should be a competitive meeting against Japan in Saitama on Monday.

The 2010 World Cup warm-up is the last for both teams before they depart for European training camps.

The friendly has been criticized in some sections of the Japanese and Korean press reflecting worries that the nature of the rivalry between the two familiar foes will ensure a full-blooded affair.

Park, who played in Japan with Kyoto Sanga prior to heading to PSV Eindhoven in 2002, admitted that this was no normal preparation match.

“Yeah – it’s not so friendly as we have to win,” the Manchester United man admitted to Goal.com though he feels it is a test worth taking.

"It will be a good game because always against Japan we have pressure from outside. That means that we can feel some of the same pressure that we will have in South Africa. It is good for the young players who don’t have much experience of pressure at the World Cup. It will be good preparation for them.”

Korea have defeated Japan 33 times, losing only on ten occasions.

Japan take on the Netherlands, Denmark and Cameroon in South Africa while Korea face Argentina, Greece and Nigeria.

World Cup 2010: Frank Lampard Backs Joe Cole's England Bid

World Cup 2010: Frank Lampard Backs Joe Cole's England Bid

Midfielder offers 'that little bit of magic'...

Joe Cole can offer England the "magic" needed to unlock defences at the World Cup this summer if picked in Fabio Capello's final 23 for the tournament, according to Chelsea team mate Frank Lampard.

Capello must trim seven players from the provisional 30-man squad currently training at altitude in Austria, with two international friendlies to be played before the chosen players fly out to South Africa on 2 June.

Cole endured a frustrating, injury-blighted club campaign, and was used mainly as a substitute during the league run-in by manager Carlo
However, he did show encouraging form during his cameo appearances, and was particularly impressive in the second half of Chelsea's final game romp against Wigan Athletic.

Lampard for one feels the creative midfielder should be on the plane.

"I hope Joe will be in the squad because he is my mate and he is a great player," Lampard told the Sunday Mirror.

"He is the sort of player who gives a team something different.

"Even though he has not played that many minutes this season, there is an argument to say that makes him fresh and more dangerous.

"Joe has that little bit of magic, that little turn of pace and ability to beat a man that make all the difference.

"Not many people can bring that to a team in top-class international football but he has it, so I hope he makes it because he deserves that."

The 31-year-old was keen to highlight the positives of both Chelsea's success this season and of Cole's enforced time on the sidelines, saying the blend of momentum and freshness could prove a winning formula.

"Maybe that will give us a little edge, having Joe so fresh," he said.

"It can't harm any of the Chelsea players to be going to the World Cup full of so much confidence after winning the Double.

"Even Joe, who has been coming on for 20 minutes or half-an-hour in games, has been looking sharp."

One issue Cole may not resolve until after the World Cup, if selected, is his future at Chelsea - the inventive midfielder is out of contract this summer, and has been linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, among others.

"I don't know if he will stay at Chelsea, that is completely up to him, but Chelsea want him to stay," added Lampard.

"He has been a great player for us and we hope he will stay."

The future of Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini could be linked away from the Bianconeri as the club are about to embark on a rebuilding phase at the club.

According to La Stampa newspaper, the Italian international's agent, Davide Lippi, has begun working, trying to find a suitor for his client.

Despite the 25-year-old already locked into a contract with the Turin giants until June 2013, the team's management could be preparing to deprive itself of an "untouchable" player.

Manchester City is reportedly ready to offer the Bianconeri €30 million for the stopper.

Roma are reportedly keeping a close eye on Bari defender Andrea Masiello, hoping to bring the 24-year-old to the Italian capital during the summer.

The Giallorossi are looking to strengthen their side with solid players, rather than big-name ones, and the wing-back is on their radar.

They also aim to find a suitable replacement for the ageing Marco Cassetti - who is 32 - and Marco Motta, who struggled during the season, only showing glimpses of what he capable of.

Only preliminary inquires have been made at this stage, with rumours circulating that Biancorossi boss Giampiero Ventura is interested in either defender Marco Andreolli or striker Alessio Cerci as possible trade bait.

World Cup 2010: Manchester City Striker Carlos Tevez Primed For Argentina Striking Role

World Cup 2010: Manchester City Striker Carlos Tevez Primed For Argentina Striking Role

Forward hoping to hit peak form in South Africa

Argentina's Manchester City star Carlos Tevez knows he has to impress coach Diego Maradona if he is to secure a World Cup starting spot.

The South American side has a wealth of attacking options, including the incomparable genius of Lionel Messi, who is expected to start in a three-pronged attack with Tevez and Gonzalo Higuain in their friendly with Canada on Monday.

The Barcelona star had been a doubt after a clash of heads in training with Javier Mascherano.

Tevez for one will be out to prove his case against Canada, but says the same motivation drives him every day on the practice pitch.

"I always try to be physically fit," he said, according to Sporting Life.

"That's the important thing, I'm trying to reach the peak of my form.

"Then, the coach makes the final decision and we have to respect him.

"There is a long time to go before the first World Cup match.

"In training, I believed I have proved I am ready to play - I'm motivated by wearing the national shirt."

Some experimentation is likely to be in order against such lowly opposition, but the Manchester City forward will not be fazed, having played in a number of formations for his current club and their cross-town rivals.

Tevez added: "If I play with another two forwards I'd be fine because I already did that many times."

Inter will not be paying €3 million to Real Madrid in a so called ‘Eurotax’ after their Champions League triumph on Saturday night.

During the week la Gazzetta dello Sport had reported that the Milan giants would have to compensate the Spanish outfit on sealing Europe’s premier crown due to a clause in Wesley Sneijder’s transfer from the Merengues last summer.

Despite the reports, it now appears that no such clause ever existed as confirmed by Inter patron Massimo Moratti.

“The Sneijder deal didn’t include any prizes for the Madrid outfit,” he declared to Tuttomercatoweb.

German stopper on Gunners radar...

Arsenal have been linked with a move for Werder Bremen centre-back Per Mertesacker.

According to The Sunday Times, the German international is considering a move away from Bundesliga and is in Arsene Wenger’s sights.

Gunners boss Wenger could be looking for a replacement for William Gallas, who has yet to agree a new deal to keep him at the Emirates.

Arsenal chairman Peter Hill-Wood has branded the French defenders wage demands as 'extravagant' in a recent interview and the 32-year-old, who could yet miss out on a World Cup place with France through injury, maybe now be on his way out at the Emirates.

According to reports, the 60-times capped Mertesacker could be the man to partner Thomas Vermaelen in the centre of Arsenal’s defence next season.

Wenger is said to have a transfer kitty of £40 million to spend in the summer and that amount could double should captain Cesc Fabregas leave in a big-money switch to Barcelona.

After already capturing Marouane Chamakh on a free transfer this week, Arsenal fans will no doubt be hoping to see more new faces coming through the door at the Emirates as they look to end their depressing run of five seasons without silverware.

Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Arsenal starlet Fran Merida on a free transfer, after the player could not agree terms with the English side.

The Gunners were keen to hold onto the 20-year old, who had been on the periphery of the first team at the Emirates, but refused their offer of a new contract, allowing los Colchoneros to pounce.

Merida has penned a five-year deal with Atletico, the club that he supported as a boy, and pending a medical he will be available for the European Supercup clash with Inter that will kick off the 2010/11 season.

The Barcelona-born midfielder moved to London in the summer of 2007, and although his appearances in the first team were limited, he was highly regarded by manager Arsene Wenger and considered an important player for the future.

However, Merida has chosen to swap Premier League for La Liga and will form part of Atletico Madrid's bid for success both domestically and in their defence of their Europa League crown.

Inter coach Jose Mourinho has announced he will leave the club after delivering a historic treble by winning the Champions League in Madrid.

"My work here is done. I have made history with this club. I will find motivations in another big club. Playing against Barcelona in Spain? That would be a big challenge," he told the Rai Sport after the game.

Mourinho is leaving Italy in ways he knows best as he takes a parting shot at Calcio.

"I have been very happy at Inter, but not in the world of Italian football because I don't like all the comments from presidents, coaches and papers. But, I will always like Inter," he added.

"I want to thank Italian football because I have become a better coach for it. Now it's time for me to take a day or two to think about a new challenge in another country.

"I have given everything for this team and I feel free to make a decision on my future. I want to become the first coach to win the Champions League with three different clubs. Only Real Madrid are interested in me but I have not signed any contract yet."

And, the country and club couldn't have been clearer, especially after waving a goodbye gesture to the Nerazzurri fans inside the Bernabeu with tears rolling down his eyes.

Asked whether he would be joining Real Madrid he told Sat.1: "Yes."
