The Nerazzurri followers toast their win over Bayern Munich in style...

Followers of newly-crowned champions of Europe Inter celebrated their 2-0 victory over Bayern Munich by filling the streets of Milan on Saturday night.

A Diego Milito double was enough to hand Jose Mourinho’s Nerazzurri the title amid joyous scenes at the Santiago Bernabeu, and send Bayern Munich back to Bavaria empty handed.

Inter supporters flooded into Milan’s Piazza Duomo to rejoice at their side’s wonderful win, their first triumph in the competition since 1965.

Inter have won the 2009-10 Serie A title following an away win over Siena on the final day of the season.

Jose Mourinho's men defeated the already-relegated Tuscans 1-0 thanks to top-scorer Diego Milito's winner on 57 minutes.

The Nerazzurri finished the campaign two points above Roma with 82 points from 38 games, earned via 24 wins, 10 draws and just four losses. Inter also went the whole season unbeaten at home, just as they did last year.

This is Inter's fourth consecutive Scudetto on the pitch since the Calciopoli scandal, and the fifth in succession if you count the title handed out in the courts in 2006.

It is also coach Mourinho's second Scudetto on the spin since arriving at the club in the summer of 2008, and the Portuguese will complete an incredible treble next Saturday of Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League if Inter beat Bayern Munich in the European Cup final at Santiago Bernabeu.
Inter spent heavily in the summer of 2009 following yet another disappointing European campaign in 2008/09 where they were dumped out at the second round of the Champions League by Manchester United.

President Massimo Moratti opened his cheque book to splash the cash on Genoa duo Diego Milito and Thiago Motta, Real Madrid technician Wesley Sneijder, while Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o arrived in a blockbuster player plus cash exchange deal that saw star man Zlatan Ibrahimovic go the other way.

It proved to be money well spent as all four players, particularly Milito and Sneijder, have excelled to ensure a magnificent double that could turn into a treble after the trip to Madrid.

The Serie A season didn't start too promisingly as Inter followed the Supercoppa Italiana loss to Lazio by only drawing at home to newly promoted Bari in week one.

Class Acts | Mou & Wes were key factors in Scudetto success

Soon, the Nerazzurri got into their stride, though, with a humiliating 4-0 thumping of city rivals Milan in week two that signalled the massive divide between the two cousins.

Inter then won eight of their next nine league games, including a stunning 5-0 win at Genoa, although they did lose their first Serie A match of the season at Sampdoria.

Despite a loss at bitter enemies Juventus at the beginning of December, by the time 2010 came along Inter were in complete control at the top of Serie A and it seemed they would breeze to another Scudetto.

Another five wins from six in the league, including a 2-0 nine-man victory over Milan again, consolidated this dominance. The January signing of Goran Pandev from Lazio on a free transfer added extra quality to the attack, and Pandev scored a brilliant free kick against the Rossoneri.

But Inter then embarked on a worrying run of form that let Milan, and especially Roma - who had been miles behind after a dreadful start to the season that had seen them lose their opening two games and coach Luciano Spalletti - into the Scudetto race.

Inter Player of the Season

Wesley Sneijder
Inter drew three league games on the trot against Parma, Napoli and Sampdoria, beat Udinese 3-2 away, before going another three matches without a win - including a 3-1 defeat at Catania.

After Milan's form dropped in March and April, it became a direct two-horse race for the Scudetto between Inter and Roma. When the latter won the direct head-to-head at the Stadio Olimpico on March 27, the Giallorossi closed to within one point of Inter at the top of the table.

A 2-2 draw at Fiorentina on April 10 then allowed Roma to move ahead of Inter for the first time. The Scudetto was now in Roma's hands and they could see the finish line in sight after winning the derby against Lazio. But, the Giallorossi inexplicably lost at home to Sampdoria in week 35.

With three games remaining, Inter were two points clear. The Nerazzurri won their last three games, beating Lazio 2-0, Chievo 4-3 and Siena 1-0 to clinch yet another Scudetto.

Inter secured their 18th Scudetto at Siena in a game that had their fans biting their fingernails. Despite plenty of opportunites, it took until the second-half for the giants to open the scoring and win their fifth consecutive championship.

Diego Milito scored the lone goal of the match and sparked the celebration for the Milan giants as they added to their trophy cabinet having won the Coppa Italia already and could possibly claim the treble if they take the Champions League on May 22.

The visitors started the day knowing a win would guarantee them the title, regardless of what happened in Verona between Chievo and second-placed Roma.

Siena already knew they were going down to Serie B, but had the chance to play spoiler against the league leaders and stop them from winning Serie A. Coach Alberto Malesani opted for a lone forward in Massimo Maccarone in a counter-attacking 4-1-4-1 formation.

Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho saw the return of Wesley Sneijder from injury. Marco Materazzi and Mario Balotelli retained their spots in the starting XI from last weekend's victory over the Flying Donkeys.

The hosts actually had the first chance as a defensive mix-up saw the ball finish on the foot of Albin Ekdal in the box, but he somehow poked wide from a promising position.

Balotelli nearly gave the Nerazzurri the lead on 13 minutes, a long cross missed the head of Thiago Motta and the teenager volleyed wide from close range with the goalkeeper frozen.

A minute later, Milito was sent through and flicked past the goalkeeper, but the angle worked against him and the ball trickled just wide.

The Beneamata were patient in looking for openings, holding on to possession, and after neat interchange, Maicon crossed to the far post, Balotelli headed back across the face of goal, but Gianluca Curci made a fantastic reaction stop Milito's point-blank range header.

Again the Robur 'keeper was on his toes to deny Walter Samuel's header following a corner after a short delay in the match when Emilson Cribari was left stunned when blocking a cross with his face.

On 35 minutes, Samuel Eto'o did well to direct a Maicon cross on goal, but once again Curci palmed away, frustrating the treble hopefuls.

Siena finally showed themselves as an offensive force with Massimo Maccarone's strike from distance requiring an acrobatic save from Julio Cesar. At the other end, Balotelli's overhead kick smashed the crossbar as the score remained 0-0.

Midfielder Mato Jajalo skinned Javier Zanetti, but buckled under the pressure and dragged his shot wide from just inside the box. With news filtering through that Roma were two goals in front of Chievo, the Nerazzurri's grasp on the Scudetto was slipping as the half-time whistle blew.

Knowing they needed a goal, Mourinho's men were pressing higher at the start of the second-half and a one-two between Maicon and Balotelli saw the Brazilian break into the area, but his shot was deflected away at the last second.

A trademark Zanetti run set up Milito, but his vicious shot from just outside the area was fingertipped over the bar by the in-form Curci. The 'Special One' then went with an all or nothing attitude, throwing on Goran Pandev for Thiago Motta.

The pressure finally told on 57 minutes. Zanetti once again slalomed through the defence and laid off for his compatriot Milito, who controlled and slid the ball past Curci.

Robur captain Simone Vergassola tried to find an equaliser, but Julio Cesar had little trouble pouncing on his daisycutter from 25 yards, as playmaker Sneijder came off for Cristian Chivu.

Substitute Dejan Stankovic hit the crossbar from a volley with 15 minutes remaining, poking at Diego Milito's bouncing assist on the edge of the area. Pandev did find the back of the net, but was offside when tucking home a rebound.

The Tuscans almost found a spectacular goal when Jajalo's whipped in cross-shot just missed the far corner as the clock ticked down on 83 minutes.

However, the Coppa Italia winners held on as coach Mourinho won his second title in Serie A for president Massimo Moratti's club, coming out top in a very close race, two points ahead of the Giallorossi.

Roma defeated Chievo 2-0 at the Stadio Marc Antonio Bentegodi in Verona in Serie A on Sunday afternoon but still finished second in the table, two points behind Inter. First half goals from Mirko Vucinic and Daniele De Rossi had surged hopes of a Scudetto triumph but a second half strike from Diego Milito for Inter against Siena extinguished the Lupi’s dreams of a title conquest.

Chievo started in a 4-3-1-2 formation with Sergio Pellissier and Pablo Granoche as the front two supported by Simone Bentivoglio just behind them. Roma lined up in a 4-2-3-1 system with Francesco Totti as the lone striker up front playing in front of Rodrigo Taddei, Simone Perrotta and Mirko Vucinic.

The Flying Donkeys almost got off to a flying start when they created the game’s first chance as early as the third minute. Bentivoglio found himself with the ball inside the Roma penalty area and took a shot at the Giallorossi goal, but it fell straight to goalkeeper Julio Sergio.

Claudio Ranieri’s side crafted their first meaningful chance in the 10th minute when Vucinic scooped a cross over the Chievo defence but it was too far for Taddei to reach.

Three minutes later Marco Cassetti tried his luck from the edge of the Chievo goal, but he failed to hit the target. Seconds later Taddei whipped in a cross for the far post for Totti, but Gennaro Sardo intervened.

Roma almost broke the deadlock on 22 minutes when Totti hit the frame of the Chievo goal. Perrotta knocked the ball down for the Giallorossi captain, who struck on target from inside the penalty box only to see his shot ricochet off the post.

A couple of minutes later Totti cut back inside from out wide and took a shot from an acute angle at the Chievo goal, forcing Lorenzo Squizzi to make a good save.

Roma were on top of Siena by this time and in the 26th minute created another chance when Totti tried to poke the ball past Squizzi from 12 yards out after collecting a pass from Vucinic. It was saved and from the rebound Totti tried to chip the ball but it was off target.

Sixty seconds later Vucinic put in a brilliant ball into the Verona-based side’s penalty area for the unmarked Perrotta, but the Italian wasted the ball. Vucinic was again in the thick of action in the 33rd minute when he took a shot at the opposition’s goal, but he couldn’t get it past Squizzi.

Totti then put the ball inside the Chievo net on 36 minutes when he tucked the ball under Squizzi, but the goal was disallowed for offside.

However, the visitors did eventually break the deadlock, and the opening goal of the afternoon came in the 40th minute when Vucinic struck. The Montenegrin international hitman connected with a long ball over the Chievo defence and, after shrugging off his marker, unleashed a ferocious strike that seared into the Chievo net.

Daniele De Rossi made it 2-0 to the Giallorossi in injury time of the first half. Pizarro laid the ball down for the Italian international midfielder at around 30 yards from the Chievo goal and the 26-year-old blasted the ball from there straight into the net.

The second half started at a slow tempo with Roma having done enough to bag maximum points. Moreover, Inter were drawing 0-0 with Siena in Tuscany, implying that at the moment Ranieri’s side were winning the Scudetto.

However, this led to Chievo taking the initiative in the opening minutes of the second session with Luca Ariatti trying his luck from 25 yards but his shot was deflected for a corner.

Three minutes later Roma goalkeeper Julio Sergio made a good save when he punched the ball away from under his own crossbar.

News of Inter’s goal had arrived and this appeared to take the spring out of the Roma players; Chievo continued to peck at them.

On the hour mark Siqueira Luciano went on a mazy run through half of the Roma side and attempted to send Pellissier through, but Julio Sergio intervened.

However, four minutes later in the 64th minute the visiting side burst into action when Vucinic subtly tried to slide the ball through to Totti but Francesco Scardina intercepted.

In the 66th minute the Giallorossi created another chance to score their third goal of the match when Totti played Vucinic through on goal. Squizzi blocked the initial shot and Totti couldn’t get a proper control of the ball when the rebound fell for him.

Chances came few and far between from then on. Erjon Bogdani tried to test Julio Sergio with a header in the 74th minute as he rose above Juan, but he couldn’t keep his header on target.

In the 79th minute Vucinic tried to clip the ball into the Chievo box but it was headed clear.

The final minutes wore down without any meaningful action taking place and it finished 2-0 to Roma. But Inter’s 1-0 win in Siena means that the Giallorossi have to remain satisfied with second place.

As a result of football match between Bayern Munich and Werder Bremen in the final Cup Germany

Werder Bremen 0-4 Bayern Munich: Unstoppable Bavarians complete domestic double

Munich earn emphatic victory to claim their second trophy of the season...

Bayern Munich entered today's match hoping to win their record eighth DFB Pokal title, and keep on pace for an historic treble. They had to fight off stiff competition from rivals Werder Bremen, who finished third in the league and had been in scintillating form for most of the spring campaign.

There were a few surprises from both teams before kickoff. For Bremen, skillful winger Marko Marin was excluded from the starting lineup as Tim Borowski got the nod. Bayern coach Louis van Gaal also turned a few heads, selecting Daniel van Buyten to start in central defense, moving Holger Badstuber to the left flank, and relegating Diego Contento to the bench.

In the early procedings, Bayern controlled the majority of possession while Bremen, much to coach Thomas Schaaf's dismay, dropped deep to defend. The forward-minded gaffer urged his team to play a higher offside trap, but it was difficult to do so in the face of wave after wave of attack.

Unsurprisingly, Arjen Robben had the game's first goalscoring opportunity, but Tim Wiese saved well from the Dutchman's 20-yard effort. Bremen reacted well to the initial pressure, and defended with good organization. The trouble for the official hosts was their lack of possession, which made winning the game a huge ask. They had their chances but such opportunities were very few and far between.

Bremen may have gone a goal ahead in the 8th minute, but Hans-Joerg Butt came to the rescue for Bayern. Claudio Pizarro brilliantly skinned Daniel van Buyten before shooting on goal, but Butt saved. The rebound was follow-ed up with another shot that Butt parried to his left, before a third shot was blocked.

Six minutes later, Philipp Bargfrede played a clever 1-2 pass with Mesut Ozil, but the Germany U-21 international lost his footing and let the ball roll out of play.

That would be just about all for the Werder attack in the first half. Bayern's huge possessional advantage kept the Gruen-Weissen on their heels, and it seemed only a matter of time before the Bavarians would open the scoring.

After Robben came close a couple of times--including missing an open net--Per Mertesacker was whistled for a hand ball in the penalty area after Ivica Olic cleverly tapped the ball forward.

Robben stepped up to the penalty spot, picked his corner, and drilled into the net past Wiese, who guessed correctly but could not position himself quickly enough to make the save.

Shortly before the half, Bremen had a chance to draw level once more, but Aaron Hunt poorly struck over the bar after Ozil set him up perfectly. Shortly thereafter, the halftime whistle was blown and Schaaf was left with the tough task of adding firepower without leaving his side exposed on the counterattack.

At the start of the second eriod, striker Hugo Almeida replaced Hunt as Schaaf looked to try out a 4-3-1-2 setup. The new game plan had immediate effect as Ozil set up the Portuguese hitman early, but Martin Demichelis made a last-ditch tackle.

Moments later, Almeida beat Holger Badstuber to a cross and looked like scoring, but sent his shot just wide.

Bremen would rue their missed opportunities, because it was not long before Bayern regrouped and mercilessly struck on te counterattack. After Robben had a legitimate claim for a penalty, Olic pounced on a loose ball in the penalty area, and tapped in to double the Bavarians' advantage.

Schaaf rolled the dice once more, this time bringing in Marko Marin for Bargfrede, but his decision would only make Bremen more susceptible on the break. Ribery, Olic, and Mueller had close calls before Mark van Bommel played Ribery through on goal. The Frenchman coolly fired into the net, effectively ending the game as a contest.

Pizarro came close to pulling one back for Bremen following a free kick, but Butt made a majestic save from the Peruvian's header. It just wasn't his day. With the game rapidly proceding towards a rout, Schaaf pulled his team into a more defensive stance to try to limit the damage rather than play for the comeback. By the 76th minute, Torsten Frings had had enough, and received his marching orders after a cynical challenge on Bastian Schweinsteiger.

In the 83rd minute, "Schweini" added a fourth after collecting a well-weighted ball over the top, rounding off an impressive performance from him and the Bayern team as a whole.

Seven minutes later, the final whistle blew, and Bayern Munich lifted their record 15th DFB Pokal title. On a different day, Bremen may have gone ahead earlier on and perhaps won the match, but this match belonged to the Bavarians, who enter the Champions League final on a high note.
